The ground-breaking 2018 JHP Gourmet Guide™ has won a ‘Best in the World’ Award in the 2018 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards – being placed third in the professionals category for best authors and chefs. The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards was founded in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau. Each year they honour the best food and wine books internationally.
When the first JHP Gourmet Guide™ was launched in May 2016 chefs, the industry and diners applauded South Africa’s completely impartial restaurant rating, subscribing to international standards. There are no restaurant nor hotel advertisements – it is neutral and unbiased, with restaurants initially judged anonymously. Only 21 restaurants and their chefs are awarded plates.
THE PLATING RATING
- One plate is awarded for excellent cuisine.
- Two plates are awarded for exceptional dining that demands a detour.
- Three plates are awarded for world-class destination dining worthy of a flight.
The SWISS Culinary Innovation Award 2018, presented by Swiss International Air Lines, was won by top female chef in the world, Chantel Dartnall, and was an assurance that the JHP Gourmet Guide™ team know what it takes to evaluate the intricacies of culinary expertise. With the guide being a conduit, this year will see South African chefs from plated restaurants competing in Taittinger’s le Culinaire Prix, the world’s oldest and most prestigious chef competition.
“I am incredibly proud of this award and the JHP Gourmet Guide™ team, our partners and our chefs in South Africa. The guide showcases their talents,” says Jenny Handley, curator and author.
The striking, glossy guide is a must-have for travellers and food lovers with the signature recipes from the top chefs in South Africa making it a keepsake.
