Having rubbed shoulders with Hugh Grant on the red carpet at the premiere of the Paddington 2 movie when in Paris last month, imagine my delight when invited to tea with my favourite bear in Cape Town. The Belmond Mount Nelson are hosting a Paddington high tea daily until 17 December. We were treated to some edible savoury and sweet delights beautifully served on blue and red le Creuset stoneware. Cake stands were filled to overflowing with scrumptious mini chicken pies, delectable chocolate suitcases, biscuits and raspberry profiteroles with red streusel, and many other gorgeous treats. A variety of speciality teas were graciously served by sommelier Craig Cupido, who shared his immense knowledge of tea with an appreciative audience. Executive chef Rudi Liebenberg (plated in the 2018 JHP Gourmet Guide™) and pastry maestro Craig Hibbert briefly joined in the fun. We relaxed in the newly decorated conservatory, where gentle greens allow the garden’s ambience to extend into this sanctuary. Cape Town’s legendary landmark has never looked more beautiful. We took a quick peak at the children’s play area to discover why families book into the Belmond Mount Nelson and never leave. I left armed with a marmalade jar from le Creuset, with marmalade of course, and a Paddington Bear book.
Book now to take someone special for tea with Paddington. Daily from 09h30 to 11h30 for R155 per person.
