La Petite Ferme

What a delight to lunch with fellow food writers at La Petite Ferme, a place that holds great memories from a delightful anniversary weekend many years ago. With new owners and vigour, it is still a popular place for tasty, generous country cuisine for locals and visitors alike.

Canapés and bubbles were enjoyed on the lawn, and we then moved inside for a generous three-course lunch paired with their own wines. Amidst much industry chatter and lots of laughs I enjoyed a mushroom and beetroot salad, a pumpkin-crusted Franschhoek trout and the Valrhona chocolate torte.

Many a dish was moved by guests to the floor for good photography – we must frustrate chefs when determined to take a good shot. I am always happy for my shots to come second best, preferring to taste the food, after a good glance and moment to enjoy the aromas, at the right temperature. Be sure to celebrate the secret season with their new Autumn menu, worth a drive out to the fabulous Franschhoek valley.

The restaurant at La Petite Ferme is open for lunch from 12h00 – 15h30 and for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays from 19h00 – 21h30 in summer (November – April) and from 18h30 – 21h00 in winter (May – October). Advance reservations are recommended.
