Visitors to South Africa now have the perfect e-planner for experiencing top rated and plated restaurants

The unique 2018 JHP Gourmet Guide™ featuring 90 South African restaurants, with recipes, is now available as an eBook, a travel-friendly version of the striking, glossy guide that has revolutionised the way restaurants are rated in this culinary destination. The guide was recently selected as a winner to represent South Africa in the Professionals category in the international Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. In May 2018 it will be competing in its category for The Best in the World Award, in China.

Annually the top 21 restaurants are plated. One plate is awarded for excellent cuisine, two plates are awarded for exceptional dining that demands a detour and three plates for world-class destination dining – worthy of a flight. The pioneering plating rating has been applauded for its credibility, impartiality and authenticity. This neutral, trusted evaluation system equates to global standards, and the absence of restaurant advertisements highlights the programme’s objectivity. Professional, credible evaluators have, since inception, been anonymous, with only the final visit announced.

The JHP Gourmet Guide™ has global partners and with the e-book, will increase its international footprint. Swiss International Air Lines recently presented the inaugural SWISS Culinary Innovation Award to three-plated chef Chantel Dartnall of Restaurant Mosaic. Taittinger Champagne will be inviting eligible chefs at plated restaurants that are featured in the guide to participate in one of the world’s most prestigious and oldest chefs’ competition, Le Taittinger Prix Culinaire International, in November 2018.

The eBook was produced specially for the international market traveling to South Africa to afford them the opportunity of downloading the guide before arrival, so that restaurant reservations are made well in advance. “Allow us to present a buffet of beautiful food and places from which you can choose an epicurean adventure or a memorable meal. Regular visitors to our blog will be delighted that they can now have a digital copy,” says Jenny Handley, author and curator of the guide.
